Mounting Options
Correct mounting of the OTS is of paramount importance to measurement performance. Osprey Measurement Systems offer a range of mounting options to accommodate various applications; however it is the installer's responsibility to ensure the mounting option selected is appropriate for the task.
Considerations
When selecting a mounting option, consider the following:

Exposure to change or stress during installation

Data Logger
The OTS operates on commands sent and received over an RS-485 serial bus. It has both an ASCII command set, and a ModBUS RTU interface.
To interact with the OTS, a data logger must be:

Pre-configured to be compatible with Osprey Measurement Systems' OTS
OR
-
Configurable such that the commands can be user defined
AND
-
Able to provide sufficient power and voltage to power the required number of sensors
To confirm a data logging system's compatibility with the OTS, or for assistance with integrating the OTS with your preferred monitoring platform, please contact Osprey Measurement Systems' support team.
The OTS can be configured and monitored using a laptop, field PC or mobile device using a USB serial port interface.
Power Requirements
The OTS will function between 5 to 18V. An OTS that has been exposed to non-transitory voltages above 24V should be removed from service.

OTS Equipment
An OTS system comprises of one or more OTS sensors. Prior to mobilising the sensors to site, it is recommended users perform the checks detailed below.
Initial Checks
While Osprey Measurement Systems' instruments undergo rigorous testing prior to dispatch, it is best practice to test all devices on receipt and prior to mobilising to site to confirm no damage during shipment and to verify performance.
Physical Check

Check for any signs of damage to the packaging that may lead to damage to the equipment inside

Check the cables for any nicks, abrasions, crushing or kinking

Check the sensors for any dents or abrasions

Check the rubber seals on the sensors
Function Check

Link each string to your preferred data logger or the Serial USB Terminal app. Carry out a read cycle and confirm all sensors are reporting correctly

Adjust the position of the sensors. Repeat the read cycle and confirm that the value has changed
Cabling
The cable flylead allows connection of the bus into a logger or RS485 interface.

Jumper cables
The Jumper cables have a pullout force of 200N.
Where exceeded there is risk of system disconnection or water ingress.
Fixing Systems
The OTS is a highly precise instrument. The manner in which it is secured to the measured structure is a significant vector for measurement contamination and should be considered carefully.
Direct Fixing
The OTS has two mounting holes, each designed for an M4 Low Cap Screw (DIN 7984) for fixing the OTS to the mounting fixtures detailed below.
Magnetic Fixing
Where the OTS is to be fitted to ferrous or other magnetically connectable substrates, high performance threaded magnets can be used.
Where the magnetic susceptibility of the substrate or magnet may be compromised over the course of measurement (due to presence of high localised temperatures or electromagnetic currents), backup tether restraints should be used.
Mounting Bracket – Adhesive Fixing
The Glue Plate – Mini is a stainless steel plate designed to offer optimal bonding using industrial adhesives for fixing the OTS to steel or concrete.
When adhesives are being used, ensure the OTS is screwed onto the Glue Plate before placing on the adhesive. The OTS screws will stop the adhesive plugging up the OTS screw holes.

Rail Clip
The OTS is designed to be mountable to the foot of standard BS113 rail via a hammer on clip fastening assembly. The fastening assembly consists of a spring clip, and a threaded wedge piece. This wedge piece provides direct mechanical coupling between rail and OTS node and also provides threaded holes that allow rapid removal and replacement of OTS's during track renewal works.

Strapping
The OTS has two banding recesses for use with up to 6mm width steel or polymer restraining ties. These can be used to fix the OTS to rebar or access casing ahead of embedding in poured concrete or grouts.
